Ok so under leaden skies the Swingers where narrowly squeezed out by Y ‘n’ R, sometimes the difference between success and failure is tiny, and here it was smaller than that.
1st Inning
We restricted Y ‘n’ R to just 3 runs, some good tight fielding from Smithy at short stop and the Coach pitching well kept the score down. It could have been better but for a oh so close out at first between the Skip and Kitch.
The Swinger’s got off to a flyer, going through the order and scoring 5 runs. Rob T brought home two runs with a great home run, going round the bases like he was out for a Sunday morning stroll, while Becs screamed herself hoarse on the side line.
Ah! So relaxed. I even had time to stop for Tiffin at second. Cool The Hands Rob

Y ‘n’ R hit back with a six run inning, their batters where proving well practiced, hitting into the gaps between outfield and infield.

Smithy called himself out in controversial circumstances, apparently on the line is a strike! Rob T, Christy and Jimmy got hits to bring Marcus and Becs home.

A shut out for the Coach getting two outs, but the out off the inning a stunning throw from Smithy at short stop to Becs at first. If she’d missed the catch that ball would still be going.

The Coach and the power of consentration
Base hitting from Coach and Kitch, saw them get home from a Marcus hit. Smithy brought Marcus home and the scores where 10 – 9 to the Swingers.
4th Inning
Another good inning from the Swingers, outs at first and Rob T having to step over an entire family of oriental tourists to make a catch in the deep. Despite the efforts though Y ‘n’ R managed to get two runs in off a homer to right field.

Coach salutes the other reason Rob's called the Hands, a great catch, cannot see the Oriental family he stepped over, maybe it was stepped on!
Swingers stuttered, Jimmy, Wazza and the Coach where out, Coach tagged off a stop from the Y ‘n’ R short stop that hit him in the midriff from Kitch’s low drive.

Y ‘n’ R where proving tough, getting 4 more runs, getting base hits from line drives to left field. It was close both times, but the ball was just evading the glove, one bounced over me and the other was agonisingly out of reach.

The Swingers though hit back with Smithy and Becs getting home with a little help from Rob T. 15-12 with 2 inning left.

6th Inning
Hope, another shut out to the Coach and this all his own work. The outs to first and we believed.
Now this is where we have our usual Umpiring controversy, Jimmy was out at second. However if you where to ask any member of the beer squad he’d been stood at the base for an age before the ball arrived. I got my usual hail of abuse, according to the Power, deep voiced finance newbie Ben Staff has an unusually high voice when shouting down the Umpire, and his accent changes to one very much of West London! Then with their pitcher making a stunning catch of a cannon like drive from Kitch, it was either catch it or lose an ear. Swingers where also shut out.
Jimmy is magnanimous after being given out, or is he just pissed?

We needed to shut them out and give ourselves a chance to over haul the 3 runs. However it wasn’t to be, they had their strongest hitters to come and the lefty American was hitting well. Four runs and the task was huge for the Swingers.

The Swingers to bat and despite good hits from Becs and Smithy, with the field set back Swingers just couldn’t get the runs.

A good game and played in a friendly spirit, well not in the Umpires opinion (Power!). We woz robbed!
