A great catch by Whatters our pitching guru started the 2nd innings well and we soon get these pretenders out, great hitting by Whatters, Fordy, Lou, Delaney & Pebble get us scoring and pulling away in true Proximity style and a lovely home run from Edge adds some style to the innings.
The heavily bandaged Rob T. steps up to the plate (a bandage on his leg from sliding to 3rd base in Mondays game and removing half his skin in the process) smashes the ball into the outfield and with speed and determination gets all the way round to 3rd base where his selective memory kicks in and he decideds it’ll be a good idea to slide, so yet more of Rob T’s skin is left on 3rd base (adding insult to injury after soaking up the applause for his heroic slide he steps off the base and gets tagged out!).
5 – 7 Proximity in the lead

After winning MVP in the National game, Becs
Show’s off by trying to hit a home run and do
splits at the same time!
Some great fielding and pitching in the 3rd innings saw us shut Engine out (as in them scoring zero points) and a bucket load of runs come our way from Fordy, Marcus, Pebble, Delaney, Kristy, Erskine, Becs and Whatley leaving the score at 15 - 5
We start the 4th innings in good spirits with the feeling nothing can surely go wrong… One of Engines finest batters steps up and launches a rocket like ball towards our outfield players, namely towards Merkine (Erskine) who slightly wrong footed puts out his hand to catch… It’s just a shame that hand was the one without the glove! The field of dreams goes quiet with only the patter of Engine feet coming home, Erskine leaves the field and wanders over to the beer squad and asks “who’s not squeamish? my thumbs dislocated and I need some one to pull on it”, before I can make my excuses Ian Renn confidently puts his hand up walks over to Erskine, sees his thumbs turns a little green and walks away (IT didn’t have the technology to fix him). The beer squad quickly points out that it might be a little more serious and nurse Hankinson (along with her fella) take Erskine to hospital. Now I don’t want to go into detail of what the injury looked like but I will say, Erskine the little banter we have about trying to outdo each over on injuries this year, is over, you win, I really don’t want to play anymore!
The swingers a little shaken up from losing the mighty Merkin lose their bearings and the innings end 17 – 17

The unbroken Merkin showing his skills
The final 3 innings are like a blur, this could be down to alcohol or more I think down to my brain not being able to register how our batting skills of 2 innings ago have disappeared?
Even a wonderful stop and throw to 1st base by Kristy in the 7th inning couldn’t help the downfall of the Mighty Proximity to a lesser team.
The final score 26 – 18 to Engine

It’s a close one with both Rob and Erskine putting their bodies on the line – but I think we have to give it to Erskine for the having best injury of the season.
