Aarhhh! There be Pirates!

In glorious sunshine we took the field against one of the division's top teams. As this was the last league game of the season the beerleaders were out in profusion and our thanks to, Ian 'Simmo' Simpson, Chris, Verity, Sophie, Anna and the Kieran 'K Dawg' Delaney.

Taking the field first your Swingers were in fine form, shutting out the Pirates with some precision pitching from the coach and a tidy catch from Jimmy D in the outfield. Sadly though we couldn't take advantage as we were also shut out.

With 'K Dawg' bellowing support from the sidelines we jogged, sauntered and laboured out into the field. DDB though were geared up for us in this inning, hitting 8 runs, with a home run over Jimmy D in the outfield (the only catch he missed all game). Proximity though were up for this, a 5 run response suggested this was going to be a classic.

DDB were now picking the gaps in the Proximity field, taking more runs and their girls watching the Coach's pitching closely. Coach then did the unthinkable and allowed Verity's boyfriend get to first. Tut tut Coach. Fedema would of killed you for that one.

Proximity scraped a few runs but are having trouble keeping pace with DDB. However Jimmy D, Matt and Dave were having an eagerness contest in the outfield, with Matt in particular running around like the Tasmanian Devil, which also accurately describes how he batted.

Krusty tried to take Kitch's head off with an unexpected throw to first. Fish decided cricket was a better game by throwing the ball onto the middle from our pitch! If your Jimmy D look away now, for the third time Jim with his floppy hair flopping, caught out DDB's big hitter, however in that last catch he somehow managed to get the Dyer Crown Jewels above the glove and a not so soft ball ricochet off them and into his mit. I think we all cried for him.

Suffice to say this is where DDB pull away and we end up in the last inning needing 15 to win. It took three people from finance 2 minutes to come up with that figure by subtracting 9 from 23. It was an amazing last effort. Runs poured in, could we do it. Sadly, dear reader, no. We were just short by 8 runs. But a fine effort to encourage us into the Quarter Finals.

Final Score DDB Pirates 23 Proximity Swinger 16

Man of the Match: James Dyer for all those catches in the outfield and putting his body on the line for the team. Ouch!
