Swingers vs The Orphans - LASL Quarter Final
As the title suggests the Swingers had a great night and a near faultless performance. Everything slid into place so much so that the team who beat us earlier in the season where mercied and there no need for a 7th inning. The idea of mercy to Ophans even softened Becs’ stone cold heart.
Swingers also got a boost to the Beer Squad with the arrival of James Pilley.
1st Inning
No umpiring controversy this week as we have a league blue, wait until next season.
Swingers up first and it was a hum-dinger. Great hits from Kristy, Smithy, Fordy and Becs set up a hat full of runs, all where helped home by Delaney and Kitch. Edge though won’t want to be batting first again anytime soon.
Pebble faces the enormity of it all.
Into the field and Edge’s tactic of putting a lad at right field meant that Orphans had to hit left to our strongest fielders. They hit well for 3.
2nd Inning
Rob T and a walk for Power got us off to a great start. Edge, Kristy, Smithy, Becs and Delaney all got home, with a little help from Kitch. However this is the bit where I have to look away. Pebble hit straight to their short stop. I set off like a geriatric cheetah. The short stop fumbled, got the ball under control got me out at second. He turned for the double play, straight into my path. My cheekbone to the back of his head.
It's like a WWE match up with both players out for the count.
Becs powers up the Energiser Bunny to sub in.
11am friday morning and St Mary’s. Believe I’ve broken something and have my right mitt, in a claw shaped cast. 11 runs in 2 innings.
3 more to them, more good work in the field, Edge’s energy in the outfield, Smithy secure at short stop.
3rd Inning
Power gets walked again, they fear the Power. She gets home off another Krusty hit, however that’s our only run.
Good eyes Power!
However Fordy, Becs and Smithy decide it’s time to rack up the pressure and the shut out the Orphans.
4th Inning
To quote the coach, ‘You know that moment when you see defeat in your opponents eyes’ this was it. 8 runs and the Orphan’s short stop threw another strop.
Orphans hit back with 4, so the game looks beyond them, good work in the field from Power keeps the runs down.
More injury concern for the Swingers as Delaney goes over. However he soldiers on.
5th Inning
Edge homers it to bring home Power, Pebble was not having a good night with the bat. We only scored 2.
Edge smacks the granny out of it, HOOOOOOOOOMER!
Orphans though are bamboozled by catches from Fordy, Becs and Krusty.
6th Inning
3 more runs, Smithy, Fordy and Delaney. Could have been more but Power was out for the only time on the night.
Play is delayed, Fordy where is the other bat?
Ophans are mercied after another shut out this time all Fordy’s own work.
Score:
Swingers 26 Orphans 10
Great cheering at the end and everyone went home happy, apart from the Orphans short stop, who is probably chastising himself still.

It was a close one between Power and Krusty - but Krusty's solid batting and fantastic catch just takes the cake.

Kitch, that's crap about my stone heart being softened. I wanted to obliterate them, but the ref called the game off for bad light!!
